I bought this toy for my nephew for Christmas and he just loved it. He's 4 years old, and while my husband complained that the car didn't turn, this was not an issue for the 4 year old because he couldn't have handled turning anyway. For the age of child this car is for, it's terrific to run. The remote is simple and easy to work, while the car itself is fun to watch as it flips every time you switch from one large button on the remote to the other.
I put batteries in the car before I wrapped it, and had a great deal of trouble getting the bottom battery of each side into the slot. There was no spring to push on to slide the battery into place so I feel sorry for my brother who will have to do this twice every time the batteries need changing (it takes 6 AA batteries). There is an off/on switch on the car which might be a problem since kids are not inclined to remember such things. The car should have a five minute timer that shuts off the car if it's not in use. A child can certainly turn the large off/on switch back on if need be.
There is not an off/on switch on the remote so I don't know if that means the single D cell battery is always on, if so that would be a major problem.
Aside from those problems, the car is fun and very workable for the 4 year old I gave it to, plus it appeared very durable even with a child running into everything possible at full speed, and the dog biting it.
My 4 year old LOVES this car! One of the wheels broke off after it had an unfortunate trip down the stairs. I superglued it and have had no problems since. You have to be sure to turn the car off when you are done using it (ours have a switch), or it sucks batteries. Super-fun to drive into a wall and watch it flip over and keep going. The 12 and 9 year olds even play with it, still! Happy driving!
